Applications for 2018 closed on 5 August 2017. QYO are now accepting late applications with a $30 late application fee.
Queensland Youth Orchestras (QYO) provides outstanding orchestral experiences for musicians aged 8 to 25. In seven orchestras and ensembles, QYO members develop their musical skills in a nurturing environment alongside musicians of a similar age and standard.
Based at the historic Old Museum Building at Bowen Hills, QYO provides an annual program of rehearsals, tutorials, concerts, camps and tours. Concerts attract large audiences in venues that include the Old Museum Concert Hall and the QPAC Concert Hall. Weekly rehearsals are scheduled during school and university terms and some orchestras undertake day trips or local tours of two to seven days duration. QYS tours internationally once every four years.
Each orchestra has a weekend music camp during first term, except QYS and Big Band. It is an integral part of the year’s training and all members are encouraged to attend. The camp fee is included in the annual membership fee. For further details on orchestras, repertoire, conductors and other information, please see the orchestra listings.
Message from John Curro, Director Of Music
I wish you very good luck for these auditions. The first 50 years of QYO have seen extraordinary growth and development so that we now have 460 young musicians in seven different ensembles catering to a wide age range for string, wind, brass and percussion players. If you are successful in joining, you will have the finest conductors and tutors, a series of concerts including the best and most suitable repertoire and, hopefully, a lot of enjoyment in the process.
You are, of course, required to take your membership seriously, and adhere to the rules and procedures regarding any absences from rehearsals, tutorials or concerts.
We look forward to welcoming you into the QYO Family in 2018.
John Curro AM MBE
QYO Director of Music and Founder (1966)
