Peadbody Award recipient

Congratulations to Greta Hunter for being awarded the 2018 Peabody Award

Congratulations to 2018 QYS Principal Flute, Greta Hunter for being awarded the 2018 Peabody Award.

Back in 2010, Peabody Energy and QYO instigated the Peabody Award for a QYO musician who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to QYO and musical achievement at a very high level. 2018 is Greta’s 11th year with QYO, she commenced in 2008 as a flautist in the Wind Ensemble. In 2009 she was again a flautist in the Wind Ensemble but additionally played double bass in QYO3. In 2010 she moved up to Wind Symphony on flute and QYO2 on double bass. Greta then left the double bass behind as she occupied flute and piccolo positions in Wind Symphony, QYO2 and, since 2015, in QYS.

A graduate of the UQ School of Music, Greta has taken advantage of the many touring opportunities that QYO has offered along the way, including last year’s QYS international tour, 3 regional tours with the QYO Chamber Orchestra and earlier regional tours with QYO2, Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble. Last Saturday was Greta’s last concert with QYO. She currently leads a very busy musical life in a number of roles as Flute Tutor at Lourdes Hill College and Westside Christian College, Director of Bands at Westside Christian College and Conductor and Musical Director of Indooroopilly Chamber Orchestra, Songlines Choir and Musical Chairs Jazz Band.
