BIG BAND

 

It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing. Big Band is a huge playground for great ensemble musicians who love the music but also don’t mind going ‘off book’ every now and then. Bohdan Davison is an amazing jazz educator who’ll teach you all you need to know across all genres of big band music. To paraphrase Frank Sinatra, you will learn how to do it your way

    • 19-piece jazz band 

    • Standard and advanced big band repertoire 

    • Concerts (Old Museum Concert Hall), Finale (QPAC), jazz venues, community events 

    • Rehearsals: Sundays 6.00pm-8.45pm  

    • AMEB Grade 6 minimum or equivalent  

    • Age 15 – 25 years (at 31 December 2026) 

    • Alto Saxophone (2), Tenor Saxophone (2), Baritone Saxophone (1), Trumpet (5), Trombone (3), Bass Trombone (1), Rhythm Guitar (1), Electric or Double Bass (1), Piano (1), Vocalist (1), Drumkit (1) 

    • All positions are offered ‘within the section’ and seating orders will be arranged by the conductor. 

BB CONDUCTOR

  • I won a Gold Medal at the World Surf Life Saving Championships with the North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club.

  • As an alumnus, it gives me great joy to facilitate the memories, experiences and lifelong friends that this ensemble gave me, many, many, many years ago. 

  • The opportunity to perform at QPAC and performing a set of music with James Morrison (OAM).

  • A performance at the Jazz at Lincoln Centre, NY.
