What’s more fun than playing your instrument at home by yourself? Playing with other people and making heaps of new friends! Cherie Deacon teaches our youngest QYOers the most important musical skill of all - how to listen and work with each other.  And she knows some great games to play during rehearsal breaks.

    • 3 Concerts (Old Museum Concert Hall), Finale (QPAC) 

    • Rehearsals: Saturdays 10.30am-12.30pm  

    • Full day workshop Saturday, February, 2026 at St Peters Lutheran College  

    • Violin AMEB Grade 4 minimum or equivalent 

    • Viola, cello AMEB Grade 3 minimum or equivalent 

    • Double bass AMEB Grade 1 minimum or equivalent 

    • Maximum age 12 years (at 31 December 2026) 

    • Violin 1 (14), Violin 2 (14), Violin 3/Viola (14), Cello (12), Double Bass (6)  

    • All positions are offered ‘within the section’ and seating orders will be arranged and rotated by the conductor.

  • Strauss’ Don Juan – first piece I ever played in QYO1 – the standard of the first rehearsal was so high that I went home and madly practised.

  • I am an amateur Powerlifter.

  • A learner who looks, listens and most importantly moves.

  • Meerkats – very cute, smart, highly social and mostly alert.

  • Mostly sports drink because I have usually just come from the gym.
