Cherie Deacon

Junior String Ensemble 2


Cherie Deacon is a highly respected violinist, violist, and educator with over 20 years of experience in performance and string education. A graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium, she studied with Elizabeth Morgan and John Curro, and as a student performed with the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra and served as Principal Viola of the Queensland Youth Symphony. Her early achievements include receiving the AMEB Sydney May Memorial Scholarship and the inaugural John Curro Viola Prize.

Cherie has taught at leading schools across Sydney and Brisbane, including Barker College, St Andrew’s Cathedral School, Somerville House, and Brisbane Boys’ Grammar School. Since 2008, she has been the Lower Primary String Coordinator at St Peters Lutheran College. In 2023, she was appointed Conductor of the Junior String Ensemble 2 with the Queensland Youth Orchestras, continuing her lifelong commitment to nurturing young musicians.
