Concerts at QYO: Junior String Ensemble 2 & Queensland Youth Orchestra 3

  • The Old Museum Concert Hall 480 Gregory Terrace Bowen Hills, QLD, 4006 Australia (map)

This concert brings together Queensland Youth Orchestra 3 and Junior String Ensemble 2 in a dynamic program of contrasting styles and characters. Works by Brian Balmages, Bob Phillips, Jeffrey E. Turner and Cathy Likhuta highlight rhythmic energy and vivid musical storytelling.

This program also features solo performances in Bériot’s Violin Concerto No. 9 and Koussevitsky’s Double Bass Concerto, alongside the atmospheric A Light in the Ocean by Chris Pilsner. Saint-Saëns’ Danse Bacchanale rounds out a program that highlights both ensemble playing and solo performance.

Our Concerts at QYO Series showcases Queensland Youth Orchestras’ ensembles and guest groups from across Brisbane and regional Queensland in the heritage-listed Old Museum Concert Hall. Presented three times a year, by each QYO ensemble, these concerts mark the culmination of each rehearsal term, giving audiences a chance to hear the progress and passion of Queensland’s young musicians.

Each performance offers something new, from vibrant orchestral favourites to intimate chamber works, highlighting the diversity and depth of QYO’s musical community. The series also welcomes guest school and community ensembles, creating opportunities for collaboration, shared learning, and celebration.
